Mode Conversion Parameters: LCL, TCL, Sdc, and Scd

(in English) In wired telephone and LAN systems, a signal propagates in the differential mode along a pair of balanced wires. However, conversion of the signal to the common mode may occur due to the imbalance of the connected devices, resulting in losses of the signal power. In addition, the devices may change external unwanted noise to the differential mode and degrade the signal quality. Accordingly, the mode conversion characteristics of the devices are key factors in signal transmission and measured in terms of the parameters: LCL, TCL, or Mixed-mode S-parameters. Theoretical analysis is carried out to express these mode conversion parameters in terms of the mode impedances of the device to discuss the relationship between the parameters.
