Comparison of coupling element characteristics in multiphase CMOS LC oscillator using THD analysis

(in English) Synchronization phenomena are observed in every place in nature such as firefly light emission and pendulum of the clock in nature. As applications of these phenomena, frequency synthesizers and a PLL circuits are widly used. For these purposes, much attention has been paid to generations of a sine wave of quadrature phase or multiphase synchronization. In the coupling system of the oscillators, the coupling method is very important and affects various factors for examples, increase and decrease of noise, possibility of observation of multiphase synchronization, and so on. In this study, THD analyses of multiphase synchronous phenomena in two kinds of CMOS LC oscillation circuits coupled with mutual inductance or transistor are performed. In this study, we show that lower noise oscillation can be realized by using mutual inductors for coupling.
