Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In recent years, Spatial Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (SQAM) is actively studied in order to increase storage density and capacity of holographic memory. In order to detect SQAM signal beam, it is necessary to acquire both spatial intensity and phase distributions of the signal beam, and interferometric methods such as the phase-shift method are generally employed. Although the complex amplitude distribution of the signal beam can be acquired precisely by the interferometry, there are several issues such as enlarged and complicated optical system and deterioration of vibration tolerance. In this paper, we focus on detection method of complex amplitude distribution of signal beam without interferometric techniques, especially the transport of intensity equation method, and examine application of this method to holographic memory. By numerical simulations and optical experiments, we reveal detection accuracy of SQAM signal beam when using this method. We also discuss conditions of phase distribution of SQAM signal beam required for accurate phase detection, and methods of reducing noise frequently appearing in the detected phase distribution.
