Energy-aware Ad Hoc Routing Algorithm Inspired by True Slime Mold

(in English) Recently, engineering neo-biomimetics that utilizes the structure and the behavior of a living organism has been attracting attention in engineering fields.
It is known that a kind of true slime mold (slime) constructs paths connecting multiple baits when foraging.
Slime tries to balance the transport efficiency and the robustness of paths by adaptively changing the number of paths based on the amount of liquid and negative taxis for light or poison.
Research on slime behavior has been conducted in the network engineering field.
On the other hand, on mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) that consist only of wireless terminals (nodes), since the dynamic changes of topology occur by node mobility and radio interference, it is possible to improve the network stability by using multiple paths.
In addition, MANET has the risk of path disruption due to battery consumption: It is possible to improve the network lifetime by changing the utilizing path according to the remaining battery level.
In this paper, we propose adaptive energy-aware routing for MANET using physarum solver (PS), which is a mathematical model of slime behavior by applying the battery consumption model of Android mobile phone.
The evaluation by computer simulation shows that the proposed method can adaptively find multiple paths according to the transmission data size and node battery level. The results also show that the proposed method extends the network lifetime compared with previous MANET routing method by applying PS.
