Improve traffic state of low-priority vehicles by the yielding protocol using inter-vehicle communication in unsignalized crossroads

(in English) Development of autonomous vehicles is progressing, and effects such as reduction of accidents and alleviation of congestion are expected due to their penetration. However, since it is inevitable that both human driving and automated driving are mixed, there is a potential risk of inducing unexpected accidents and congestion due to differences of decision. In this paper, we improved the yielding protocol that we had already proposed to resolve differences of decision by yielding the right of way to low-priority vehicles in unsignalized crossroads where traffic priority is clear, and was conducted simulation. We varied the traffic volume and the autonomous vehicle penetration rate, and confirmed traffic improvement effect of low-priority vehicles by the yielding protocol.
