Reconstruction considering Poisson's nature on sinogram in X-ray CT
Saki Sugiura, Naohiro Toda (Aichi Pref. Univ.) MBE2018-101
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Although X-ray CT (Computed Tomography) has become indispensable in medical diagnosis, more reduction of radiation exposure is required. When irradiation dose is reduced in X-ray CT, quantum noise on the reconstructed image increases. There is a possibility that a reconstructed image with high accuracy can be obtained with less irradiation amount by utilizing the physical characteristic about arrival of X ray that the number of X-ray photons to be measured follows the Poisson distribution. In this research, focusing on the fact that the sinogram directly holds the Poisson property of arrival of X-rays, by adaptively changing the smoothing span of the Bi-lateral filter so that the variation coefficient becomes constant on the sinogram. A method for improving reconstruction image quality is proposed.
