When artificial neural networks learn new information additionally, they encounter serious forgetting of information learned in the past.
This phenomenon is called catastrophic forgetting or catastrophic interference, and it is unacceptable for both human memory models and practical engineering applications.
The objective of this research is to reduce catastrophic forgetting in neural networks by biologically plausible methods.
For this purpose, we introduce pseudorehearsal and regularization to protect important weights to multilayer neural networks trained by contrastive Hebbian learning.
Computer simulation shows effectiveness of the proposed method. |
