[Invited Lecture] Direction of Arrival Estimation with the Calibration Method Based on an Excitation Condition for an Antenna Array

(in English) We have seen the advent of various wireless communication systems, e.g. cellular system, wireless LAN, Bluetooth, RFID system, etc. in the last few decades. It will not take long to connect humans and various things via these networks to open the IoT era. In this situation, location estimation based on direction of arrival (DoA) estimation of the radio waves used in these wireless communication systems is widely studied recently. Calibration of every antenna array, however, might be unacceptable for such these consumer-electronics products since that costs much. Even if the cost is acceptable, the calibration will be required every time any parts, e.g. a chassis, which scatter radio waves is redesigned. Then we have studied a simple calibration method based only on an excitation condition for an antenna array that keeps the high DoA estimation accuracy. This paper presents the results of DoA estimation with the proposed and conventional calibration methods.
