Flight Experiments of Helicopter Forward-Looking Obstacle Detection 76 GHz Low-Transmitting Power Circular Polarized Millimeter-Wave Radar System -- Detection Performance Evaluation of High-Voltage Power Pylons and Powerlines --

(in English) This report discusses flight experiments of helicopter forward-looking obstacle detection 76 GHz low-transmitting power circular polarized millimeter-wave radar system. The detection performance of the high-voltage power pylons and power lines are discussed. Firstly, the overview of the developed millimeter-wave radar system is discussed. The center frequency and the transmitting power are 76.5 GHz and 10 dBm, which satisfy low-transmitting power radar specification. In addition, antenna polarization is a circular polarization to obtain the reflection from the high-voltage power line. Secondly, the results of the ground detection test shows 20 dB signal-to-noise ration reflection signal from the power line at 1,470 m away. Finally, the flight experiments are carried out using the developed radar system. The maximum detection range of the high-voltage power pylons and the power lines are 1970 and 1520 m, respectively.
