Temporal/Spatial congruency aspect of the auditory affection on visual working memory

(in English) The processes of integration are generally considered to mean the conjunction and/or summation of multiple pieces of information. Sensory information is often perceptually ignored or suppressed by other information. Adding auditory white noise to the environment has been considered to be a promising way to enhance the memory performance of children with ADHD-type problems but disrupt that of non-ADHD control children [1]. To explore the exact mechanism behind white noise benefits, we did a color-memory task with different white noise conditions. Two color sets were displayed on one display at the same time. Only one side color was asked to be remembered for each trial. Our experiment found that the memory accuracy of left probe was improved significantly when white noise was displayed via left ear phone at encoding and maintenance time. Thus, ipsilateral white noise can improve WM than contralateral. However, this phenomenon only happened in the left view.
