It is known that the vascular endothelial function is impaired in early stages of atherosclerosis.
Shear stress-induced endothelial nitric oxide (NO) production plays a key role in maintaining normal vascular homeostasis. The flow-mediated dilation (FMD) test is used to assess endothelial function. FMD is induced in response to changes in the mechanical structure by the vascular endothelial and smooth muscle cells. However, the details of the response are not still clear because the path of signal transduction is highly complicated. In this study, we propose an mathematical model that integrates endothelial and smooth muscle cells. We also evaluate the model by comparing with the measured data in FMD test. |
