Wireless Power Transfer exploiting Multi-user Diversity for Wireless Powered Sensor Networks

(in English) In order to realize battery-less wireless sensor networks, WPSNs (Wireless Powered Sensor Networks) are actively studied. In our study, we focus on a WPSN where a sink node operating with battery collects data from sensor nodes and transfers power by electromagnetic wave to sensor nodes. When the sink conducts power transfer regardless of channel state of each node over fading channels, battery energy of the sink is used inefficiently since the sink can conduct power transfer over poor channels. Therefore, we consider exploiting multi-user diversity. However, when the sink always conducts power transfer over good channels, fairness among nodes is degraded, and the residual energy of farther nodes runs out quickly since they have less opportunities to be charged. Therefore, in this study, we propose power transfer considering fairness and residual energy while exploiting multi-user diversity. The proposed scheme realizes improvement of sustainability of high data collection rate by considering the amount of harvested energy over the past period, residual energy of each node, and distance to the sink for controlling charging opportunity. With computer simulations, we show that the proposed scheme can maintain high data collection rate for longer period of time in comparison to power transfer without considering channel state.
