[Poster Presentation] Measurement of dependence of UV irradiation energy on azimuthal and polar anchoring energy for photo alignment film

(in English) The surface anchoring energy is an index representing the strength of the alignment restoring force.
Hence it is an important parameter for the liquid crystal displays (LCDs), we are studying on establishing the measurement techniques.
In this study, the dependence of surface azimuthal / polar anchoring energy on UV irradiation dosage which gives proper surface alignment of liquid crystal (LC) molecules was investigated.
As a result of a polyimide for planar alignment, stable alignment state was confirmed with UV irradiation of 0.3 to 2J/$cm^2$.
The azimuthal anchoring energy was about $10^-4$J/$m^2$ at a certain UV irradiation energy.
The polar anchoring energy was not accurately measured due to the reverse tilt.
