QUS is widely used as screenings of osteoporosis. In this study, a method of measurement of speed of sound (SOS) and broadband ultrasound attenuation (BUA) has been studied for non-contact QUS. In this report, a method of non-contact measurement of BUA using agar phantoms with silicone rubbers is described. First, agar phantoms containing 5 and 10 mmthickness silicone rubbers and the agar phantom without a silicone rubber were made. In non-contact QUS, extremely attenuated airborne ultrasound passed through a phantom have to be detected and evaluated. Therefore, the S/N of the pass-through ultrasound is improved by M-sequence pulse compression. Airborne ultrasound modulated by 13th-order M-sequence are transmitted to the phantom side. Then, received signals including pass-through waves are correlated with the transmitted Msequence. After that, analyzed signals extracted from cross-correlated signals were Fourier transformed. BUAs of phantoms are estimated by subtraction of the frequency spectrum of the phantom without a silicone rubber from those of phantoms with silicone rubbers. Estimated BUA were -4.77 dB/MHz (5 mm) and -5.78 dB/MHz (10 mm). respectively. BUAs and attenuation of high-frequency band increased as the thickness of the silicone rubber. |
