When sonic waves are radiated from underwater to the water-air boundary, the water surface shape is determined by the balance between the acoustic radiation pressure and the surface tension. Using this theory, we can measure radiation pressure distribution, sound pressure distribution and ultrasonic power from the water surface displacement.
In this study, we estimated radiation pressure and ultrasonic power from water surface displacement measured by focused ultrasonic transducer. In general, it is known that the radiation pressure and the ultrasonic power are proportional to the square of the sound pressure, but the experimental results show that the radiation pressure and the ultrasonic power tend to be proportional to approximately the cube of the sound pressure. This suggests that the water surface displacement may not be determined merely by balancing the radiation pressure and the surface tension. |
