Design of an optical phased array with high index contrast waveguides using electro-optic polymer core

(in English) We have been investigating an ultra-fast optical phased array (OPA) using electro-optic (EO) polymers to apply three-dimensional imaging devices. To achieve large steering angles and a sharply defined optical beam, we applied a high refractive index contrast waveguide and optimized layout design of the OPA. The designed OPA has cascaded 1x2 multimode interference (MMI) optical beam splitters with straight waveguide as a mode converter between bending waveguide and 1x2 MMI beam splitter. We fabricated and evaluated the designed OPA and then we confirmed suppression of stray light in far-field patterns.
