(事前公開アブストラクト) In future mobile networks, a high-speed and uninterrupted communication system is very important to provide advanced services to fast-moving users, such as passengers on high-speed trains. However, realizing such a network using wireless technologies is particularly difficult because of limitations in the transmission capacity, frequent handover, and complexity in the system control and mobility management. Advanced photonic technologies, such as fast wavelength switching and convergence of fiber-optic and wireless systems in high-frequency bands, in combination with a linear-cell network configuration can be the potential candidates. In this paper, we review our recent research activities on development of handover-free and high-speed communications for high-speed trains using an ultrafast wavelength-division multiplexing fiber-wireless system in the 90-GHz band. We demonstrated a high-speed transmission of approximately 20-Gb/s and 10-Gb/s signals over the switched fiber-wireless links in the downlink and uplink directions, respectively. An ultrafast radio-cell switching of less than 4 µs was experimentally demonstrated in both downlink and uplink directions. The possibility of connecting a central station to many remote radio cells was also evaluated, confirming that an uninterrupted communication network up to several tens of kilometers can be achieved for high-speed trains. |
