A method for reducing instability of negawatt power and inequality among consumers in an electricity market

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Negawatt trading, which means a type of trading of electrical power saved by consumers, is expected to suppress peak power consumption and increase the utilization efficiency of power generation facilities. However, the negawatt power generates a risk of instability because it relies on consumers’ power-saving behavior. The unstable negawatt power can be a factor that degrades the quality for a power system required to maintain reliable supply and demand balance. In our previous research, a method to request consumers to save power from an aggregator which centrally manages negawatt power has been devised in order to reduce the instability of negatwatt power. However, inequality of consumers’ opportunities for acquiring the rewards as incentive for power saving is not considered. This paper proposes a method for power saving that reduces the inequality among consumers. In addition, the simulation demonstrates effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of instability of negawatt power and inequality among consumers.
