Demonstration of 4 channel Optical Unitary Converter Based on Multiport Directional Couplers

(in English) We demonstrate the first experimental demonstration of a novel silicon photonic 44 optical unitary converter based on multiport directional couplers fabricated on a compact silicon chip. By optimizing the thermo-optic (TO) phase shifters with simulated annealing algorythm, four input modes are converted simultaneously into four output modes in a reconfigurable manner. We also observed clear eye opening of 40-Gb/s non-return-to-zero (NRZ) signal.
