Because the accelerometer sensors and global positioning system (GPS) produce additional mobile traffic and increase energy consumption, we propose a recognition method only using communication quality factors. In the proposed method, instead of using accelerometer sensors and GPS, we collect mobile TCP throughputs, received-signal strength indicators (RSSIs), and cellular base-station IDs (Cell IDs). In our previous work, we confirmed that the proposed method can recognize transportation modes by high accuracy. In this paper, we summarize the contributions of our previous work, and newly validate evaluations through more practical collecting scenarios, including different locations and dates. In addition, we implement our proposed system by using edge/cloud computing platform and evaluate the system performance. |
