Attacks that degrade the randomness of a true random number generator (TRNG) by physical attacks on entropy sources, which are the basis of randomness, have been proposed. If these attacks reduce the randomness of a TRNG, it can be a real threat to security. However, methods to evaluate the resistance of entropy sources to these attacks have not been fully discussed in the past. In this paper, we conduct a fundamental study on a method to evaluate the entropy of ring oscillators, which are widely used as entropy sources of TRNGs by using amplitude probability distribution (APD) measurement. |
