Separation Characteristics of Volume Holographic Spatial Mode Demultiplexer at 1550 nm Wavelength

(in English) Spatial-mode multiplexer and demultiplexer (MUX/DEMUX) remains essential for systems of mode division multiplexing (MDM) transmission, and the high scalability, low cost of manufacturing, and compactness of MUX/DEMUX are requirements for constructing a larger-scale transmission system. A volume holographic demultiplexer (VHDM) using angularly multiplexed holograms can be a scalable technique for the number of modes, and a compact and low-cost configuration can be achieved. The VHDM has been experimentally demonstrated in visible light, however it was difficult for the VHDM to work in the communication band due to the lack of sensitivity of the typical holographic media in infrared region. In this paper, the dual-wavelength method, in which different wavelengths are used to record and read (demultiplexing), is used to prepare a 1550 nm band VHDM, and first demonstration of three modes demultiplexing using the VHDM and its characteristics are described.
