A Home Area Network Integrated 920MHz-band and 2.4GHz-band Wireless Systems

(in English) In recent years, various Internet of Things (IoT) systems and variety of machine-to-machine (M2M) wireless systems have been developed. It is important to use the appropriate M2M wireless system according to each application. In this report, we propose a home area network (HAN) integrated the wireless smart utility network (Wi-SUN) field area network (Wi-SUN FAN) system in the 920 MHz-band and the Wi-Fi system in the 2.4 GHz-band for the health care management system. The proposed system consists of a coordinator, IoT gateways (IoT-GWs) equipped with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Wi-SUN FAN devices, and IoT devices. In this application, the IoT-GWs get the three types of data (i.e., vital, environmental, and user activity data) from the IoT devices and send them to the coordinator. As a transmission model, we propose the FAN scheme where only Wi-SUN FAN is used to send vital and environmental data and the Fast pass scheme where Wi-SUN FAN and Wi-Fi are combined to send vital and environmental data. The computer simulation results show that the Fast pass scheme can achieve end-to-end (E2E) transmission success rate of 99.5% or more in the collection of vital and environmental data.
