It has been proposed to use a dental panoramic radiograph captured in a dental clinic to judge a presence of calcification in a carotid artery, which is considered to be a sign of arteriosclerosis. According to the judgment, we can recommend consultation with a physician to prevent the sudden onset of vascular disease. In this paper, we propose a method to improve the discrimination accuracy on the presence of calcification by improving the accuracy of shape reconstruction of the region considered to be calcified. Here, we extract the coordinates which are considered to constitute the outline of the calcification region and calculate the index which indicates how much the coordinates are appropriate as a part of the outline of the calcification region. Also, contour extraction is performed so that control points of snakes converge according to the value. As a result, the shape can be extracted more accurately than the conventional method. We confirm the improvement of the discrimination accuracy through experiments using dental panoramic radiographs. |
