Inline delay adjust function for wide-area distributed 8K UHD video server system

(in English) An 8K ultra-high definition (UHD) video is being applied to medical, digital signage, and other areas. We have proposed a widely distributed video server system that consists multiple servers connected via a wide-area network and delivers the 8K video with synchronization with these servers. This distributed server system sends an 8K video as multiple video streams to a receiver system from distributed servers respectively. If difference between transmission delays from these servers at a receiver side is too large to absorb in the receiver, an 8K video does not display correctly. Therefore, we researched implementation method to adjust transmission delay difference between the streams by measuring the differences in real-time, and developed this function. We performed 8K video transmission and adjusting experiment for substantiation. In this experiment, we sent an uncompressed 8K video stream from distributed 8K video server system located in StarBED and SINET5 NFV to Kanagawa Institute of Technology (KAIT) booth in Interop Tokyo 2018 exhibition, and adjusted in KAIT booth using this function. As the result, we confirmed this function effective for correct playback. In this paper, we describe the implementation method for the delay adjust function and show transmission performance evaluation results. We also show substantiation experiment results.
