[Poster Presentation] Maximum and Minimum strain extraction from Brillouin gain spectrum using nonnegative matrix factorization

(in English) A fiber optic strain measurement based on the Brillouin scattering phenomenon enables a distributed strain measurement along an optical fiber. The strain is obtained by analyzing the Brillouin gain spectrum (BGS) observed in the BGS observation section centered at the strain measurement position. The extraction of the maximum and minimum strains in each observation section is important for applying this measurement to monitoring of structures under a nonuniform strain. The BGS has nonnegative values and BGSs observed distributedly can be treated as a matrix. We propose a novel method for the BGS analysis that applies nonnegative matrix factorization to the observed BGS in order to extracted the maximum and minimum strains at each strain measurement position. The effectiveness of this method is investigated by simulations.
