[Invited Talk] High-Speed Free-Space Optical Communication Enabled by Mode Diversity Reception with a Few-Mode-Fiber under Atmospheric Turbulence
Manabu Arikawa, Toshiharu Ito (NEC) PN2018-19
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We report investigations on mode diversity reception with a few-mode-fiber coupling for high-speed satellite-to-ground free-space optical communication in order to mitigate the fading caused by optical propagation through the atmospheric turbulence. We summarize our experimental evaluation results of mode diversity reception with digital diversity combining, including demonstration with a diffuser plate, confirmation of digital combining with severe fading emulated with variable optical attenuators, and open-air 320-m free-space transmission of 10 Gb/s BPSK.
