Mode division multiplexing technique has been intensively studied for realization of large capacity optical communication systems. In a Few-mode fiber (FMF), propagation characteristics such as optical loss are changed by an electric field distribution of each mode. Hence, it is important to obtain the electric field in a FMF in order to understand the transmission property. In this paper, we investigated the cross-sectional Brillouin gain, which reflects the electric field of the pump light, by employing pulsed pump-probe Brillouin optical time domain analysis (BOTDA) with an image sensor for evaluation of mode propagation characteristics. |
