Measurement of elevation arrival angler profile at base station in Mobile Communications

(in English) In order to evaluate spatial processing technologies such as adaptive array antenna and MIMO etc. accurately in cellular mobile communication systems, a time-spatial propagation model which can explain not only path loss and delay characteristics but also arrival angle characteristic at the same time is required. An estimation formula capable of adapting to various environments has been proposed for the time-spatial propagation model including horizontal arrival angler profile at BS. Recently, to further improve the transmission efficiency, a multi-element two-dimensional arrangement antenna technology such as Massive MIMO that arranges the antenna element not only in the horizontal direction but also in the vertical direction in the base station antenna has been studied. To design such antennas efficiently, the arrival angular profile characteristic in not only the horizontal plane but also the vertical plane is important. Although there are several reports on the measurement results in urban areas, there are few measurement results in other environments. In this paper, we show the measurement results of the elevational arrival angler profile at suburban area and urban area, and analyze its characteristics.
