In the present paper, we report a result of an experiment of remote control of a mobile robot by using an environment sensor. An environment sensor is a sensor that is installed outside a robot. By using the environment sensor, it becomes possible to sense large number of robots with relatively smaller number of sensors, which results in realization of a low-cost remote control system. In the present work, we construct an experiment system in which a stereo camera is used as an environment sensor. The mobile robot moves to a destination with the location information of the robot, which is detected by the stereo camera and transmitted via a wireless IP network. We show the precision of a remote control is greatly improved with the environment sensor than with internal encoders. We also show some restrictions we found when we employ this architecture. |
