Temperature dependence of reorientational viscosity of cyano-biphenyl liquid crystals in isotropic phase

(in English) It has been reported that cyanobiphenyl type liquid crystals make molecular association even in isotropic phase and they shows specific characteristics compared to other liquid crystal molecules. In this study, we chose 4-cyano-4'-pentylbiphenyl (5CB) as a cyanobiphenyl type liquid crystal and investigated the temperature dependence of reorientational viscosity. Activation energy of reorientational viscosity is not coincident with that of shear viscosity. In other liquid crystal e. g. 4-methoxybenzylidene-4-butylaniline (MBBA), both activation energy of both viscosity is coincident with each other. We also studied, effect of additives on activation energy.
