The significance of Web exploration with trial and error has increased in intellectual activities such as group work in Project-Based-Learning (PBL) and research work. To successfully carry out such intellectual activities, it is needed for users but difficult to precisely grasp results of searches and their circumstances (i.e., search contexts). The skill of such exploration should be acquired through practical experiences. However, it is difficult to experience meaningful trial and error. Although there exist many research projects for Web exploration, effective support for facilitating the meaningful trial and error has not been realized. Especially, novices tend to become immersed only in a part of Web exploration such as query creation. Therefore, it is important for unskilled people to gain experiences of trial and error in Web exploration. Thus, this research focuses on the importance of exploratory experiences of unskilled people and the difficulty for novices to experience them. We aim to develop the mechanisms to facilitating exploratory experiences of novices by reducing the extra hurdles in the main phases of Web exploration. This paper mainly describes the support framework and the outline of each method. |
