We have proposed Traffic Relay as a method to realize load balancing in heterogeneous networks. In this method, user equipment (UE) knows the position of each small cell and the predicted time to reach the small cells using positioning information. When a UE has a non-real-time uplink packet, the UE (sender UE) does not transmit the packet to a base-station (BS) in a macro cell immediately but instead defers transmitting it until the
UE reaches the small cell. Additionally, the sender UE will entrust the packet to other UEs, which are referred as relayer UEs upon encounter if relayer UEs are able to reach the small cell faster than sender UE in the traffic relay method. Therefore, the packet is transmitted with short transmission delay time for load balancing. However, the situation in which the traffic demand amount becomes enormous and the sender UE cannot send all packets to the relayer UE in one ad-hoc communication has not been studied. In this paper, we evaluate the UE’s cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the transmission completion time under that situation. The simulation result shows that traffic relay method improves the CDF by 0.42 from traffic navigation at the time of 600 s in the condition where the traffic volume of each UE is 36 Gbit. |
