Acquisition Method for Consistent Observation Time of Sensor Data in Wireless Sensor Networks

(in English) In wireless sensor networks, each wireless sensor node records all events occurred within its observation area with their observation times. Each wireless sensor node possesses its own local clock whose drift and offset are different each other. Until now, various clock synchronization methods have been proposed by exchanging synchronization messages carrying current local clock values. However, it is difficult to realize precise clock synchronization due to unpredictable transmission delay of the synchronization messages. Hence, this paper proposes novel clock
synchronization method without synchronization message exchanges. Here, by using event observation logs of neighbor wireless sensor nodes, commonly observed events are estimated and the relative drift and offset providing the maximum number of commonly observed events are adopted to clock synchronization between the neighbor wireless sensor nodes. In addition, this paper proposes a method for clock synchronization among local clocks of all the wireless sensor nodes. Here, a local clock of one of the wireless sensor nodes is selected as the reference local clock and all the other local clocks are synchronized with it by estimation of relative drifts and offsets. To reduce the synchronization error in the estimation, an algorithm to configure a clock synchronization graph whose root is the reference local clock and whose links represent connections between wireless sensor nodes where the proposed clock synchronization method between neighbor wireless sensor nodes are applied is proposed.
