Evaluation of Reception Performance Considering Error Vector Magnitude for Downlink Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access

(in English) In this paper, we investigate the reception performances considering the influence of the error vector magnitude (EVM) of a transmit signal in the downlink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) with two users.
The motivation of this work is to clarify the impact of the distortion of the transmit signal, which is expressed as the EVM, on the reception performance due to the radio frequency (RF) imperfections of the transmitter, such as a nonlinearity of the power amplifier and a phase noise of the oscillator.
Results show that the performance of the near-base-station user equipment (UE), which implements a successive interference cancellation (SIC), is deteriorated by the EVM, and that the amount of the deterioration rapidly increases as the modulation level is higher.
In contrast, the performance of the far-base-station UE, which does not implement SIC, is less affected by the EVM.
Moreover, from the evaluation result of the throughput versus received signal to noise ratio (SNR) performance, it is shown that the desired throughput cannot be achieved at EVM 7% when 64 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) is applied to the near-base-station UE.
Accordingly, a high-quality RF transmitter will be required for the introduction of NOMA to the next generation mobile communication system.
