Loophole-free violation of the Bell inequality
is not only one of the most striking features of quantum mechanics,
but also consists the basis of
the unconditional security of device-independent quantum key distribution.
In this study, we theoretically and experimentally investigate the optimal conditions for
the Bell experiment using spontaneous parametric down conversion~(SPDC) sources.
It is theoretically revealed that setting the large average photon number~(around 1.0) is desirable for observing the
large violation of the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt~(CHSH) inequality. In the experiment,
we performed the Bell experiment without postselection
using polarization entangled photon pairs generated by SPDC.
While the detection efficiencies of our system is too low to directly observe the CHSH violation,
we see that our theoretical values well agree with the experimental values. Furthermore,
by compensating the imperfect detection efficiencies using
the global optimization, we
confirmed that setting the large average photon number indeed lead to the large CHSH violation. |
