Three-dimensional (3D) printers are useful in the education and welfare of the blind. However, there is any established guidelines on the adequate size of models that are made by the use of 3D printers. We, therefore, made three sizes (6 cm, 12 cm, 18 cm) of models of six architectures with different complexities and conducted an experiment in which the participants explored these models and were asked to answer to the questions on the physical features of the architectures and to evaluate each sized models. The results of the physical feature quizzes showed difficulty in detecting little dots (a few milimeters) in small-sized (6 cm) models and dented structures in all sizes, and different impressions given by different sizes. The largest sized (18 cm) models gained the highest ratings for all architectures whereas even smaller sizes were understandable as for less complicated architectures. |
