In general, the rotation angle between the differential transmission lines and the meshed ground of a flexible printed circuit board is 45 ° and the differential-transmission lines are placed symmetrically to the pattern of the meshed ground. By considering the symmetry, the separation between adjacent differential lines depends on the pitch of the mesh structure. The decrease in the dielectric thickness with keeping the characteristic impedance expands the mesh pitch. However, this reduces the wiring density. On the other hand, the asymmetry, or imbalance, of the differential transmission lines over a meshed ground plane causes the differential skew. This study focuses on the angle between the trace of the differential transmission lines and the meshed ground plane to investigate the angle dependence of the differential skew by a simple model. A preliminary evaluation was conducted by analytical estimation of the phase delay difference in the differential transmission lines using the simple model. In a full-wave simulation, it is found that the differential skew does not depend on the position of the differential transmission lines to the pattern of meshed ground and keeps a comparatively small value at the rotation angle around 30°. |
