To easily estimate sleep position change and sleep stages on the bed, we measured physical vibrations using sheet-type vibration sensors under the mattress. The sensors composed of two bidirectional microphones equipped with elastic tubes placed under the foot and chest sides were installed at asymmetrical positions each other. We identified the subject’s position on the bed with high precision by calculating correlation coefficients between waveforms of the pressure change being transmitted to the both sides of the microphone. Sleep stages were presumed by an index of sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous activity based on the instantaneous heart rate derived from the ballistocardiographic signal. |
