Minimum Potential Model for the Dripping Faucet Chaos

(in English) The mechanism of deterministic chaos observed in a dripping water faucet has been investigated. In the previous studies, as a possible mechanism, the existence of a potential surface with a valley and a ridge has been suggested. However, its origin has not been understood. In this paper, we show that this potential surface is equivalent to the lowest potential surface derived from the Young-Laplace equation describing static equilibrium drop formations. Based on this finding, we introduce a mathematical model with a potential surface with a valley and a ridge and show that this model can reproduce the nonlinear phenomena observed in the dripping faucet system.
