We have been proposing a navigation system for visually impaired persons, which presents impacts for white cane ferrule and provides virtual guideway to navigate. This paper discusses about navigation capabilities of eight straight-walking guideway designs: one lq`Cnt'rq design that provides one guideline on the center in front of subjects like a narrow braille block, two lq`LorR'rq designs that provide one guideline on a side of subjects like a wall, and five lq`LR'rq designs that provide two guidelines on the both sides of subjects like a narrow corridor. The result of experiments on sighted three persons is the follows. The Cnt design failed navigation sometime. The LorR and wide LR designs provided the fastest navigation. The narrow LR designs succeeded to control walking speed depending on these widths. |
