Double-layer Slit Structure to Suppress E-plane Sidelobes in a Corporate-feed Waveguide Slot Array Antenna of 2x2-element Radiating Units

(in English) We have suppressed E-plane sidelobe level in the tilted direction between 30-40 deg. in Taylor radiation pattern by introducing a slit layer in a corporate-feed waveguide slot array antenna consisting of 2×2-element radiating units. Instead of one layer of foaming dielectric, two layers of PTFE and air realize desired equivalent relative permittivity and the degradation of the reflection is compensated by an additional slit layer. The full structure of 16×16 elements with the feeding circuit is designed and analyzed in the 70GHz band. 8.8 % bandwidth of VSWR less than 1.5 and 76.6 % antenna efficiency at the design frequency are achieved. The sidelobe level of the tilted direction between 30-40 deg. is suppressed to -30.0 dB from -24.9 dB at the design frequency.
