Layered Underwater Sensor Network Depending on the Change of Ocean Current Speed in Depth

(in English) Recently, Underwater Sensor Networks (UWSNs) have attracted attention. In underwater environments, sensor nodes move along the ocean current, which has the fastest velocity at the water surface and declines rapidly with depth. In this paper, we propose a layered underwater sensor network suitable for the change of ocean current speed in depth. In the proposed network, sensor nodes are arranged to horizontal layers that are deployed at different depth levels. The mobile sink is used to gather data measured by sensor nodes, and the sensor nodes only wake up when the sink reaches their vicinity for saving energy consumption. Moreover, we also propose a new routing method suitable for the architecture. Through computer simulations, the effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated.
