A channel assignment in densely deployed EDCA WLANs considering Capture Effect

(in English) As a results of deploying mobile routers and tethering terminals, many wireless LAN systems are densely placed. In order to obtain higher performance such as total throughput of the WLANs, a channel assignment is one of key methods. When multiple EDCA-WLANs of IEEE802.11e closely placed are interfered each other, more frame collisions occur with high priority data than that with low priority data. This is because higher priority data has higher sending right in EDCA. So far, the high priority WLANs are thought to be allocated to different channels and to be mixed with low priority WLAN in the same channel. However, The channel allocation is based on a model where any collisions results in frame error although a capture effect can save some frames in real. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an innovative channel assignment method that improves total throughput of total channels by effectively exploiting capture effect. In the proposed method, WLANs with high priority data are allocated to one channel and also that with low priority are to another channel. Performance evaluations compare the proposed method with conventional method and the results show that the proposed method was quite effective.
