In downlink multi-user MIMO transmission, channel state information is required for precoding at a base station. The channel state changes during the time interval between channel estimation and signal transmission due to terminal motion, etc., and this deteriorates communication quality. To reduce the effect of the time varying channels, if we estimate channels by transmitting pilot symbols frequently at short intervals, the transmission efficiency is lowered. To solve this problem, it is important to predict channels with high accuracy. In this paper, assuming broadband communication using a large linear antenna array at a base station and a circular antenna array at a terminal, we propose an SOS(sum-of-sinusoids) channel prediction scheme. The method separates multipath signals in three domains, which are delay, angle of departure and angle of arrival domains. We perform the inverse discrete Fourier transform in the frequency domain, spatial discrete Fourier transform using basestation antennas and spatial filtering using user equipment antennas. We predict the future multipath signals in the three domains. Applying the inverse transforms, we predict all the channels. In this paper, we show the performance of the proposed scheme for a two-multipath model and a WINNER II model, which is considered to be similar to a real environment. For both the cases, the proposed scheme improves the channel prediction performance. |
