Research and development of ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and automated driving technologies has been actively conducted aiming at safe, comfortable and highly efficient future mobility. ADAS and automated driving car need various sensors such as optical camera, millimeter-wave radar, LIDAR (Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging) for surrounding environment recognition. Millimeter-wave FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) radar can simultaneously detect relative distance and moving speed of the target. Furthermore, it has robust detection performance to rainy, foggy or dark environments and high distance resolution by taking advantage of wide bandwidth of millimeter-wave band. Therefore, millimeter-wave FMCW radar is one of the promising solutions for automated driving car. However, as a number of automated driving cars equipped with radars will be deployed in future, inter-radar interference causing false-detection and miss-detection of the target will be a significant problem. This invited talk describes inter-radar interference issues of millimeter-wave FMCW radars and challenges for interference mitigation techniques such as interference suppression and multiple access FMCW radar in our research group. Furthermore, we point out that standardization of automotive millimeter-wave FMCW radars is important for inter-radar interference mitigation. |
