(in English) In conjunction with broadband networks, cloud services have become widespread, and the types of data management used by individuals and companies continue to change. Moreover, with the widespread use of virtualization technology, flexibly utilizing cloud resources based on cost and scale is now possible. This study examines the real-time transmission of an uncompressed 8K ultra-high-definition (8K-UHD) video system using a cloud server. Based on previous server technology, this research collaborates with multiple virtual machines (VMs) on OpenStack to realize an uncompressed 8K-UHD video server with 24-Gbps distribution capability. Specifically, storage processing and protocol delivery of a target VM are pre-evaluated using a benchmark application and actual video transmission. In addition, we examine deficiencies in performance associated with the evaluated VM by improving the transmission control method of the application such that a practical level of video quality is achieved. Finally, we determine the availability of the system based on an 8K/4K uncompressed broadband video transmission trial using Science Information Network (SINET) 5, which is a Japanese academic backbone network, and Japan Gigabit Network’s (JGN) wide area network test bed.
