Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Optical communication networks are becoming an important social infrastructure supporting the current information society. The amount of data flowing in the network is steadily increasing, and optical communication systems that support this information society require further higher performance, lower power consumption, and lower cost. Needless to say, the optical device which is one of the fundamental technologies of the optical communication system pursues higher speed operation. In addition, more various R&D of optical devices from a wider perspective would be necessary to meet with future expansion of the optical communication system. In this presentation, challenges and expectations for the development of photodetectors for high speed optical communication systems are discussed.
