Coded PAM to Improve Bandwidth-Limitation and Chromatic-Dispersion tolerances in Direct-Detection System

(in English) Direct-detection system using 4-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM4) is a promising technique to realize a 100-Gb/s optical transmission with lower costs in next generation data center networks.
However, the performance is severely degraded by bandwidth limitation of electrical devices and chromatic dispersion (CD) because its baudrate is more than 50 Gbaud for 100-Gb/s PAM4 transmission.
In this paper, we propose simple coding schemes for PAM4 to improve bandwidth limitation and CD tolerances without complex digital signal processing at the receiver.
We experimentally demonstrate that the schemes effectively reduce signal performance degradation by bandwidth limitation and CD.
