Vital data collection using RPL from a large number of exercisers

(in English) In recent years, vital data monitoring of people playing various exercises has attracted significant attentions, and a system collecting vital data from a large number of exercisers in a real-time and reliable manner is required in the fields of sports and school education. In this paper, we focus on a multi-hop WSN (Wireless Sensor Network) that collects vital data from sensor nodes that are attached to people playing exercises. As a routing protocol to collect vital data with multi-hop transmissions, we employ RPL (IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy Networks) that is the most common routing protocol for low-power and lossy WSNs. However, the original RPL does not support mobility of nodes and multi-channel communications that are employed for alleviating traffic congestions. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce MC-RPL (Mobility and Multi-Channel RPL) where each node changes its operating channel when it cannot construct its route, and its message transmission is controlled according to its moving velocity. With computer simulations, we compare the performance of MC-RPL and that of a flooding-based scheme, and investigate the effectiveness of RPL-based scheme for vital data collection from a large number of exercisers.
